FALCON SPIRIT

The survey of the lower estuary by the Falcon spirit used a rosette-mounted Niskin bottles at each site to take water samples at selected depths which were prepped onboard for later lab analysis of nutrient concentration, oxygen saturation, phytoplankton and chlorophyll-a. A zooplankton net was deployed at three of the stations (H30, D32 & I38), and a CTD measured a continuous profile of temperature, salinity, coloured dissolved organic matter, irradiance and fluorescence with depth. An ADCP mapped the ships track and location as well current speed and direction between and at each of the sites.

This was carried out from site J39 in the sound to site B33 past the Saltash pontoon - see map for station locations and please scroll down for our overall findings of the lower estuary.
