There is an overall increase Average Backscatter along the transect as it increases from 58dB to 73dB. There is a small area of increased backscatter up to 77dB just past mid transect.
There is an overall decrease in Average Backscatter from the surface to a depth of
around 26.25m. In the 10m below surface backscatter values are between 70-
There is an overall decrease in Average Backscatter along the transect and from depth to the surface. Average Backscatter values decrease from 80dB to 56dB.
There is an overall decrease in Average Backscatter from the surface to around 70m.
The line of high backscatter (70-
Similar to transect 3. We see a shoal of fish and an area corresponding to a Deep Chlorophyll maximum.
There is a distinct low backscatter area below 37.5m along the transect of 66-
Very similar to transect 3 but displaying high backscatter values (84-
The area closest to the sea bed in transect 7 at 31m to 64m has a low backscatter value of 75dB. Above this first layer is a layer of water with higher a higher value of 85dB. This second layer of water runs from 5m deep to 31m deep and has a value of 85dB. The top layer of water above 5m has the same dB value as the bottom layer of water. However, in the top layer of water there are also small patches of data which have higher decibel values with values of 110dB – 108dB.
Transect 8 has backscatter which is stratified. The area closest to the sea bed at 31m to 64m has a low backscatter value of around 70dB. Above the low dB layer is a layer of water with higher dB values. This second layer of water runs from around 4m deep to 31m deep and has a value of 80dB. The top layer of water (4m to the sea surface) has the same dB value as the bottom layer of water. However, in the top layer of water there are small patches of data which have higher decibel values with values of 110dB – 116dB.
Transect 9 does not have any areas of high backscatter with the maximum backscatter at 86 decibels. The area towards the bottom of the graph has an average backscatter of 88dB, whereas the area towards the top right of the graph has a low backscatter of around 63dB.
