* Our group was not on the Callista on the day, we were meant to go out to L4 in the Falcon Spirit. However, on our way out we experienced boat problems and had to return to shore without any data. We analysed Group 1’s data in the lab analysis the next day and that is the data presented here in our Offshore section

On Tuesday 3rd July, we collected data offshore on the Callista. We went to six stations, at each one we deployed a CTD rosette with fluorescence, temperature, salinity, dissolved organic matter and irradiance sensors and Niskin bottles. From the Niskin bottles we took samples for phytoplankton, nutrients, oxygen and chlorophyll. At some stations we also deployed a plankton net through 20m of vertical depth to collect samples for zooplankton. As well as this, we took ADCP transects between the stations to determine the water flow. The conditions on the day were slightly too rough to go out as far as we had planned (to the E1 station in the English Channel) but we did manage to get out to the L4 site in the English Channel, which is listed in the data as station C7.
