Collection/Equipment

YSI probe

Data measurements of depth, temperature, percentage oxygen saturation, salinity, pH, turbidity and chlorophyll a were taken using the YSI probe every half hour, starting at 12:34 from the surface to just above the sediment.

Current meter

Measurements of flow speed and direction were taken every hour using the current meter in one metre intervals from the surface to 5m and then also at 5.5m, just above the sediment.

Light Meter

Measurements of irradiance were taken every hour using the light probe in one metre intervals from the surface to 5m and then also at 5.5m, just above the sediment.

Niskin bottles

2 water samples were collected using Niskin bottles each hour. One was taken near the surface and the second at 5.5m. These samples were later analysed for chlorophyll a concentration.

Pontoon

Measurements were carried out from the King Harry’s Pontoon (50° 21’60.01”N, 005° 02’78.05”W). The measurements were taken over a 3 hour period between 12:34 UTC and 15:38 UTC , with high tide occurring during the survey at 14:51 UTC. The aim was to look at physical and biological estuarine properties and how they changed with depth and over time with the tide. Measurements were made using a YSI probe, current meter, niskin bottle, and light meter.
