OnTuesday 2nd July
We spent the afternoon on
the Sonardyne vessel collecting
sidescan data using a tow fish, as
well as collecting sediment using a Van

Introduction

Plymouth Sound is a confluence of the estuaries of the Tavy, Tamar, Lynher and Yealm. In the sound, the depth varies from 10m, down to 30m within the natural shipping lanes. The geology of the area consists mainly of sandstones, which show multiple antiformal and faulted bed forms with sediment of the estuaries comprising of mainly sandy sediments with hard rocky substrates. Our aim was to use a sidescan sonar to map an area of seabed habitat in the eastern Sound, offshore of Wembury.
