Geology

Purpose

The aim of the geofield survey was to provide a greater understanding of the geology of Plymouth Sound. The survey was conducted at Renney Rocks, South East of Plymouth Sound, located 048 800˚N, 249 250˚E This was to complement our understanding for the geophysical boatwork using a sidescan sonar. This also provided an all-encompassing understanding of the Plymouth Sound, as well as facilitating a critical introduction the benthic environment / habitats we may encounter. The principal skill applied was measuring the strike and dip of the bedding plane rock formations at Renney Point. South East of Plymouth Sound, located 50˚19.134’N, 004˚7.203’W. Analysis of a local cross-section cliff face was also undertaken.
