Satellite images of bright waters on the Patagonian Shelf
Bright waters in this area were seen both during 1978-86 by the CZCS
satellite (see
global distribution) and in later years by SeaWiFS. The Patagonian shelf
includes the Falkland Islands (Malvinas) and is off the coast of Argentina
(SE of South America). The bright waters seem particularly intense along the
shelf edge. There has been no in-situ verification that bright waters in
this area are due to E. huxleyi blooms.
