Ranging from 5.64 meters to 19.75 meters these well equipped
vessels are used to support research and teaching at the School
of Ocean and Earth Science. They are available for hire, subject to availability,
for research, surveying, geophysics, and diving. 
Supported by qualified crews and staff, the vessels are used as a resource to support research and teaching in coastal waters and are based at the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton.
Another aspect of their use is in the Discover
Oceanography programme
to promote practical oceanography by giving hands on science trips at all ages.
A variety of work is undertaken by the vessels including
• Deployment of scientific equipment
• Sampling of flora and fauna as well as sediments
• Educational visits by schools, colleges, and universities
• Surveying
•Diving
• Geophysics
