Welcome to the PAP Observatory website - get ready to dive into the deep ocean!

The Porcupine Abyssal Plain (PAP) Observatory is a sustained, multidisciplinary observatory in the North Atalntic coordinated by the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton. For over 20 years the observatory has provided key time-series datasets for analysing the effect of climate change on the open ocean and deep-sea ecosystems.

The PAP Observatory has a makeover: A collaboration between the NERC and UK Met Office has led to the first simultaneous ocean and atmosphere monitoring at the site. Read more at Planet Earth online and the Expedition BLOG. PAP-SO informs Policy: On 21st July 2010 Charting Progress II was launched as a comprehensive study of the state of the UK marine environment. PAP-SO data and trends were a key contributor to this policy report.
