Observational Physical Oceanography

Research Interests

I work in the field of physical oceanography, using spatially integrated and point measurement techniques (both in-situ and space-borne) to describe and explain the dynamics of time-variable ocean transports. Of particular interest to my work is the temporal evolution of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation which plays an important role in the global meridional heat transport. Observing this mode of ocean circulation requires to study boundary current regimes, geostrophic flows in ocean interior and directly wind driven currents at the sea surface simultaneously.
