Where to get the data

The main repository for the Extended Ellett line data is the British Oceanographic Data Centre (BODC). The EEL inventory of cruises provides links to each of the BODC cruise summary reports.

Some data were collected on the Extended Ellett line as part of the UK contribution to the World Ocean Circulation Experiment (1990-1998). Those data can be obtained from the CLIVAR and Carbon Hydrographic Office (formerly the WOCE Hydrographic Program Office) where you will find data in this region through the identifiers A25, A24 (One Time Cruises) AR28 and AR12 (Repeat Cruises).

Some Extended Ellett line data are available from the ICES database in comma-separated text and ODV formats. Go to the Links page for more information on ICES. ODV (Ocean Data View) is free software developed at the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) which allows interactive plotting of oceanographic data (for more information visit the ODV homepage). The ICES database contains a huge amount of physical, chemical and biological data. Below are samples of information that the ICES database can provide (kindly supplied by Harry Dooley):

* Summary of cruises with Dave Ellett as chief scientist
* All profiles from ICES database within 10nm of the Ellett line (1421 stations, as of Aug 2003) in comma-separated ascii or ODV format.
* A jpg image of the kind of plots that ODV can generate.
