I studied Biology in Aachen, Germany, where I majored in ecotoxicology and neurobiology. In January 2009, I finished my Diploma thesis (Master thesis) at the Institute for Environmental Research. My research focused on the potential risk of bioaccumulation and magnification of ethinyl estradiol in aquatic laboratory systems.

With my interest in marine biology, I looked for a PhD that dealt with anthropogenic effects on the marine environment. I was accepted at the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton (University of Southampton) and started my PhD in October 2009. I am investigating the physiological and ecological responses of deep-sea fauna to anthropogenic disturbance through oil drilling. I will apply laboratory studies and fieldwork in shallow and deep waters to assess effects and possible ecological changes.
