By Plane

Southampton is quite easy to locate. It sits in the centre of the UK's south coast, opposite the Isle of Wight. The City of Southampton lies at the head of Southampton Water. Travel to Southampton is easy by most forms of transport: plane, train, car and ferry.

London is of course well served by airports, but you will also find international airports in Southampton and the near-by town of Bournemouth. From the London airports there are good road (motorway) and rail links. For those travelling via Heathrow airport, note that there is a frequent bus service to Woking railway station that provides a convenient route to Southampton. By Train

Southampton is less than one and a half hours from London by rail. British Rail runs approximately 3 trains every hour from Waterloo Station, London to Southampton Central Station. National Rail Enquiries

By Bus

There is a Uni-Link Bus service (U1C Dock Gate 4)
which starts at Southampton City Airport, travels to Southampton Central train station then travels directly to the NOCS campus. Southampton City Link Bus Service is a free service that runs from Town Quay - West Quay - Asda - Central Train Station, it is approximately a 15 minute walk to NOCS from Town Quay. Bus time tables for both services are available here. National Express Coaches call at Southampton Central Bus Station, which is a five-minute walk to Southampton Central.

By Boat

There are frequent ferries from Cowes, Isle of Wight and Hythe, directly to Southampton Docks (Town Quay).There are also passenger vessels operating between New York and Southampton and between continental Europe and Portsmouth.

By Road

There are regular taxi services for connections from Central London to the National Oceanography Centre. By car National Oceanography Centre has direct links from the M3, A33, M27 and A27. From Central London, join the M3 and leave at Junction 13. Follow signs to Dock Gate 4 and the Waterfront for approximately 6 miles. The journey time is approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.
