RRS James Clark Ross cruise 157
A team from the DEEPSEAS Group has set off for the Antarctic and the first science mission of the new UK deep submergence remotely operated vehicle (ROV) Isis. Heading down south are Paul Tyler, Sven Thatje, Chris Hauton, Abigail Pattenden and Emily Dolan. The cruise is being led by Professor Julian Dowdeswell, Director of the Scott Polar Research Institute, and will carry out both geological and biological investigations in the Marguerite Bay area (68°S, on the West Antarctic Peninsula). The cruise will also involve a visit to the British Antarctic Survey's (BAS) base at Rothera. You can watch Rothera and RRS James Clark Ross via BAS webcams: |Rothera-webcam| |JCR-webcam| (use your back button to return to this page).

The team set sail from Montevideo (Uruguay) and then made a pitstop at Port Stanley (Falkland Islands).
Next stop was the BAS base at Rothera. By coincidence, another member of the DEEPSEAS Group - Sue-Ann Watson - is currently working at Rothera. The team had time to stretch their legs and meet the natives.
