NOC1.1 Flux Dataset - Individual Monthly Fields
The individual monthly fields for the period 1980-1993 used to produce the NOC1.1 flux climatology may be downloaded from the links below. It is important to note that the number of observations on which the fields are based has a strong spatial dependence. The North Atlantic and North Pacific are relatively well sampled but the observation frequency decreases sharply in the Southern Hemisphere. In particular, south of 40o S the errors in the fields are likely to be large and caution must be taken when interpreting the fields in this region.
Note that the term 'Flux Dataset' is used here to refer to the individual monthly fields while 'Flux Climatology' is employed for climatological mean fields.
The fields are freely available to interested users. However, we encourage users to inform us by email if they transfer the files giving a contact address and a short summary of research interest. By doing this we will be able to inform you of future modifications/updates to the fields. For this purpose and for general queries contact: Simon Josey or Jeremy Grist .
Extension to December 2005: The individual monthly heat flux and meteorological variable fields have now been extended to cover the additional period 1994-2005. These fields are also available from the links below. The extension has been partially funded by the NERC directed programme Rapid Climate Change.
