National Consultation

The International and Strategic Partnerships Office enables and facilitates interactions across the marine science community, stakeholders and policy makers. Examples include providing answers to Parliamentary Questions, providing input to enquiries and reviews, and, when appropriate, seeking coordinated responses when the marine science community is asked for answers or opinions on relevant issues.

The UK Marine and Coastal Access Act (2009) had a long gestation and NOC played a full part in helping to develop the Act, we are now active in providing input to subsequent secondary legislation as the Marine Management Organisation develops the first group of marine spatial plans.

We work mainly with our Oceans 2025 partner institutes, plus key organisations such as the Marine Information Alliance, IMarEST, IACMST,and Government Departments such as Defra. We work with the devolved administrations in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, and increasingly work with our colleagues in Europe as the Marine Strategy Framework Directive develops. NMCO also acts on behalf of NERC for some consultations, for example the 2009 Severn Renewable Energy proposals.

The consultations listed below are open for comment, please send any input to Steve Hall (ext 26435 room 256/34).
