About SEISCANx

This facility is an EC FP5 project to rescue early paper seismic reflection profiles using long large format scanning with archive to a CD-ROM database of image files.

Between 1997 and July 2003, over 10392 images of 1,400,000 line kilometres have been scanned (free of charge) and returned to owners.
To re-survey these would cost over 30 million Euros at current rates.

SEISCANEX is new funding from the EC Framework 5 Programme to extend the activities of the successful seismic scanning archive facility. In addition to keeping the cost-free scanning activity open, the project will widen the geographic regions of opportunity to include EC Newly Associated (NAS) States and those members of the EC Mediterranean Partnership. The project will now also scan data acquired outside EC waters.

While existing upgraded scanning stations continue, a new mobile scanning capability will enable in-situ operations that avoid transit of valuable old seismic records. The principal scanning centres in Barcelona and Strasbourg have been augmented with new scanning facilities in Trieste (OGS) and Athens (NOA- mobile).

Training is also be available cost-free to enable participants to install their own archive and processing capabilities that will extend beyond the project term. This training also includes digital conversion of the seismic images to SEG-Y format and the application of these files in seismic processing (ProMAX etc).
