Southampton's Contribution to Observing the Oceans

National Oceanography Centre, Southampton has an experienced team of scientists and technical staff who operate in the forefront of data gathering, using satellite remote sensing, sea-based instruments deployed from ships, moored sensor arrays (such as the RAPID array) and from autonomous sensors carried on profiling floats (Argo programme) or new technology vehicles such as Autosub. Our meteorologists have a global reputation for developing improved understanding of the interaction between the ocean and atmosphere
