NCOF is a strategic partnership between the Met Office and the Proudman Oceanographic Laboratory, Plymouth Marine Laboratory, National Oceanography Centre, Southampton and the Environmental Systems Science Centre at Reading.

The NOCS Contribution

The National Oceanography Centre, Southampton brings to the Partnership the UK focus for ocean science, with a global perspective. We seek to gain accelerated exploitation of global ocean science by the operational user community.

The National Oceanography Centre contributes to NCOF in the following ways:

  • Impartially operated National and International Facilities and Services
  • Academic and Strategic Research
  • Engineering and Technological Development
  • Education
  • Enterprise and Knowledge Transfer
  • Advice to Government, Business and Charities
  • Promotion of engagement between science and society
  • A specific remit to serve a wide national community by providing, in an inclusive way, strategic leadership, focus, facilitation and coordination.
