Recent satellite data for LOCO / MadEx II cruise (Mar/Apr 2006)

There is coverage by a large number of sensors. Here we show examples of recent data from altimeters (giving sea surface height, SSH), and ocean colour sensors (giving a measure of chlorophyll concentration). Finally we show a map of sea surface temperature (SST), which is an amalgam of infra-red and microwave sensing plus model data. All data are provided by RSDAS and AVISO and plotted here at NOCS.

Plot of recent sea surface temperature (OSTIA product, provided by the Met Office)

Chlorophyll concentration from MODIS sensor on the AQUA satellite

Sea surface height (from AVISO's MSLA product). The geostrophic flow is along contours of SSH (clockwise around the lows)
