CV for Liz Hawker

Current Position

I am currently studying for my PhD at Southampton Oceanography Centre, as a member of the James Rennell Division Hydrography Group.

Employment

September 1998 - October 1999:Research Assistant to Professor Ian Boyd - Marine Life Sciences Division, British Antarctic Survey.
I worked on a project investigating marine mammals carrying oceanographic instrumentation foraging from the island of South Georgia. The aim of the work was to see if marine mammals could be used to investigate physical oceanographic variability. The work required the development of new techniques in data analysis and presentation, and the integration of several different data streams to analyse the spatial variability within the data. This work resulted in the submission of a research paper to the Journal of Marine Systems, and further publications are in preparation.
During this project I had the opportunity to participate on a joint UEA/BAS/SOC research cruise, ALBATROSS.

October 1999 - June 2000:Assistant Physical Oceanographer - Marine Life Sciences Division, British Antarctic Survey.
In recognition of the experience I gained on ALBATROSS I was invited to participate in the CCAMLR Krill Synoptic Survey - a BAS research cruise to South Georgia and the Antarctic Peninsula. On my return from sea I continued to work on the analysis of the oceanographic data, under the guidance of Dr Mark Brandon.
