        Ocean circulation; variability on timescales from interannual to decadal. 
        Merdional fluxes and interbasin exchange, especially in the South Atlantic. 
        Southern Ocean - transport and dynamics of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current. 
        Comparison of output from ocean General Circulation Models with in situ observations.
        Measurement techniques: hydrographic measurements; shipboard and lowered ADCP; GPS. 
        Application of new technology to oceanographic problems: Autosub; PALACE floats.
