Early-Stage Training (EST) Fellowships, funded by the European Union under the Sixth Framework Marie Curie Actions.

BIOTRACS has provided funding for 12 PhD studentships (3 year Fellowships) and 6 short visiting Fellowships (3 month Fellowships) for the period 2005 to 2008.

BIOTRACS is an interdisciplinary biogeochemistry early stage training (EST) programme at four Centres of excellence at Universities across the UK; Southampton, Bristol, Leeds and Manchester. BIOTRACS is hosted at the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton. The training programme will generate highly skilled doctoral and postdoctoral researchers with an invaluable portfolio of analytical and interpretative scientific skills.

This scheme is for Early Stage Researchers - in general this means that applicants should be within 4 years of having achieved a degree which qualifies them for a PhD programme in the UK. To ensure European-wide mobility, early-stage researchers are normally required to move country of residence when taking up their Fellowship. See here for more details. All 3 year Fellows will be trained in at least 2 of the 4 centres within BIOTRACS, 3 month Fellows will normally be based in 1 centre for their training.

The WUN provides funding for exchange between WUN sites in Europe and the USA and exposure to a range of top quality research experiences.
